Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! Ag-line is essential in the removal of surface seepage water and ground water that penetrates the surrounding soils above and behind, and/or seeps through the top clay plug into the drainage gravel which gravitationally pulls to the bottom of the wall (in which is founded into stiff natural ground at varying depths, respective of overall wall height and or product used). The geotechnical fabric/filtration cloth creates a barrier between the gravel and retaining wall to filter seepage/ground water before it is dissipated through the gravel and Ag-line. Gravel holds no water and its primary function is dissipation of water. This, in turn, significantly alleviates the pressure or "surcharge" that pushes the wall from behind, as when soils become wet they attain more mass. In cases of wall failure, in particular sleeper walls, it seems common place that we have been contracted to fix problems where another's work has involved inadequate drainage and/or footing depth. This causes the walls to succumb to the demands of the surcharge placed behind the wall with the excess water in the soils.
In all cases we adhere to local government policy on assessment of retaining walls and/or structures. For instance, the Gold Coast city council deems that walls 1.5 meters away from structures and/or varying distances from assets are self-assessable if the maximum height of the wall is below 1m and/or not supporting a home or structure that requires certification and engineer for 15/16 (in QLD). Our expert team of estimators will do the required due diligence and gain the appropriate feedback to advise or refer all customers to the appropriate solutions for each individual circumstance. Retaincon is well versed in cases of walls or structures exceeding the criteria of self-assessment and has a trusted resource of preferred consultants that streamline the process of engineering and certification. This leaves the client with a one stop, unburdened shop, that handles all the administration from start to finish. That means, NO INUNDATION OF PAPERWORK for the client!
In short, a lifetime. Concrete sleepers have a life of more or than 50 years, and stone has about the same depending on density and proper construction. Timber sleepers, however, generally have a life span of anywhere between 10-20 years circumstantially.
